The C.A.R.E.S. (Children Are Receiving Extended Services) program is before and after school care for regularly enrolled children, Pre Kindergarten through sixth grade. It is staffed by school personnel, serves only the children enrolled at the school and operates only on days when school is in session.

The C.A.R.E.S. program is open from 7:15 am until 8:15 am each school day and 3:15 pm until 6:00 pm each FULL school day. The Elementary School Program provides professional care, supervision, recreation, and enrichment activities. It serves working families who desire both parochial school education and supplementary day care in a Catholic environment for children enrolled at Saint Jude School. Fees are the sole support of the C.A.R.E.S. Program. Neither the school nor the parish subsidize the C.A.R.E.S. program.

8/02/11 > Diocesan Admission Policy
What is the Diocesan Admission Policy

As part of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, St. Jude School admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all of the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to the students. The school does not discriminate in the administration of its educational policies, its admission policy or in any school-administered program.

The school endeavors to accommodate students with special needs, as the school’s resources and capabilities reasonably permit. The school reserves the right to decline admission or impose reasonable conditions of attendance where indicated under the circumstances.
8/02/11 > Requirements for Admission
What are the Requirements for Admission

Admission and continued enrollment is open to all registered members of Saint Jude Parish. For admission to the following classes, a student must meet these age requirements by September 15th:
Preschool - 3 years old
Pre K - 4 yrs. old
Kindergarten - 5 yrs. old
First Grade - 6 yrs. old

The student must also have a Baptismal Certificate, State Birth Certificate, Documents of proof of Immunizations, and the appropriate Registration Fee. Any child registered for grades other than first grade must have a satisfactory academic and conduct record from their prior school, plus all of the above.
8/02/11 > Custody of Children
Parents are asked to inform the school principal when custody of the child/children resides with one parent. It is important for the school to have a copy of the custody decree. This will help school personnel to make appropriate decisions when the need arises. Custodial parents are likewise asked to supply the school with copies of restraining orders if the need arises.
8/02/11 > Tuition Policy
The pastor and principal, in consultation with a parish finance committee, stipulate the yearly rate. Tuition may be paid in full, monthly or in two payments, as specified and agreed to on the annual Tuition Agreement Form. All questions regarding tuition are to be referred to the Parish Financial Business Manager (215-822-0179).
8/02/11 > Standardized Testing
In adherence to Archdiocesan directives, the Terra Nova standardized testing is administered to all students in grades K - 7. This test provides an objective evaluation of each student's academic ability and progress thus enabling us to evaluate the student's performance.
8/02/11 > Absences
State law requires that a student attend school for 180 days. When a student is absent, a note from the parent/guardian stating the date/s and cause of absence should be presented to the child's homeroom teacher on the day the child returns to school. A physician's note is required after a prolonged absence of three or more days.

Parents/guardians are asked to complete a Homework Policy Form which stipulates how the student will receive missed assignments. Homework assignments are available on the individual homeroom/subject teacher's web page.

All parents/guardians of absent students are required to call the school office at 215-822-9225 to report the absence before 9:00 am. This is an important aspect of communication which ensures our students' safety.
8/02/11 > Vacations
Although the choice to take a family vacation while school is in session is ultimately left to parental discretion, these vacations are strongly discouraged. Children who are absent because of family vacations miss valuable classroom instruction which cannot be replaced.

The policy regarding vacations is as follows:
1. A note stating the reason and the travel dates must be sent to the Principal's Office at least one week prior to the vacation.
2. Advance assignments will not be given to any student prior to the vacation.
3. Work which the student has missed will be gathered during his/her absence and will be given to the student when he/she returns to school.
4. All makeup work will be due within a reasonable amount of time to be determined by the individual teacher.
5. Students will be given ample notification by the teacher as to dates to makeup any quizzes or tests missed during the vacation period.
8/02/11 > Transportation
Bus transportation is provided for students according to the regulations of the district in which the students reside. Parents sign a bus registration form at the time of registration and receive bus service based upon eligibility as determined by the local school districts.

Students are expected to follow the bus driver’s directions, obey all safety rules, and treat others with courtesy. Students who misbehave and violate safety rules may lose their privilege of riding the school bus. If a child should be suspended from the school bus, parents are legally responsible for transportation to and from school, even when this causes major inconvenience. It is essential that parents make it clear to their children that they expect proper behavior on the school bus and at the school bus stop.
8/02/11 > Transfer of Students
If a student is transferring to another school, parents are requested to arrange a meeting with the principal to obtain the official transfer form and also to sign a permission form for release of records. Records are not forwarded to another school unless this form has been signed by a parent. The student will be given the transfer slip on his/her last day of school. School records will be forwarded to the child’s new school upon request from that school.
